Because I was blessed to be born into a loving, committed Christian family, I came to the Lord early in life. And although I didn’t always live as if I did, I was committed to Christ and to God’s Word. I knew Jesus loved me and had forgiven my every sin - past, present and future; I knew I’d spend eternity with Him
In school, I was a relatively good student, especially doing well in science and math. After graduation from high school, I attended college and received my BA and teacher’s credential in Chemistry and Math. It was at Humboldt State that I met Christie Kuhns, the one who captured my heart and answered “yes” when I asked her to become my wife. After a short stint as a chemist in a pulp mill in Eureka, I took a teaching job in Willits in January of 1968. Knowing that we wanted to be involved in, and that we wanted to raise our young daughter in the church, we soon began attending a Baptist church in town. It wasn’t long before I became a Sunday School teacher, Youth Director and Deacon. After a number of years of teaching math at Willits High, I moved into administration, first as Vice Principal at Willits High, and then as Principal at Baechtel Grove Middle School.
In the fall of 1976, we became involved in a home study with seven other families from several different churches in the area. It was the consensus of that Bible study group that God was leading us to begin a new work in Willits and in October, 1978, Agapè Bible Church was born. I was selected as one of two Elders to oversee the ministry.
Since God has gifted me in administration, I have always been involved in overseeing finances and in management of the church, as well as teaching Bible Studies and preaching from time to time. After retiring from public education in 2002, I accepted a part-time position as an associate pastor at the church. Since then, and up to the present, I have served in many ways including preaching, counseling and leading Bible studies, as well as my administrative responsibilities.
